Ver|ner's law
Ver|ner's law «VUR nuhrz»,
a statement by the Danish linguist Karl Verner in 1877, explaining certain apparent exceptions to Grimm's law, by showing that the Germanic voiceless fricatives became voiced between voiced sounds unless the syllable preceding them bore the accent in Indo-European.
